An Announcement from HeWhoLooksSkyward
Hey all, this is your friendly neighborhood Wordsmith, HeWhoLooksSkyward, with a big announcement. I know it's been awhile since you've heard from me, but today I want to share something exciting with you. For all of you that enjoyed the Barbarians trilogy; a tale of exploration and war, of asking what it means to be human, of suffering and loss...all the elements of life itself. And now, it’s time for me to take the next step.
I’m moving my base of operations over to Patreon, at www.patreon.com/hewholooksskyward, so I can focus on my next project...and it’s a biggie.
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, allow me to introduce you to Descendants of a Dead Earth.
It's the story of mankind, after the loss of our homeworld. Centuries from now, when Man first stepped beyond the Solar System, we found a galaxy teeming with life. That was the good news.
The bad news was that all the good real estate was already taken, and the elder and more powerful species had little time for another batch of upstarts. But as long as we minded our manners and didn’t joggle their elbows, they mostly left us to our own devices.
And then war came.
Not just any war, the war, the war the other species had long dreaded, against an ancient and powerful race. The only way anyone was going to survive was if they all banded together...even those that had long despised each other. This war was for all the marbles...and Humanity gladly joined the Alliance, eager for a chance to prove themselves.
It was a brutal and ugly conflict, and the casualties were horrific. The enemy swept through the quadrant like a plague...and standing right in its path was Earth.
We never stood a chance.
In the blink of an eye, the Task Force we sent to fight was now all that was left of humanity. Our worlds were scoured clean, left uninhabitable, teeming with the enemies’ weapons. Going back was not an option.
So we chose to move forward, surviving as we always have. We searched for a new place to call home...only to be told time and again there was no room at the Inn. As the years went by the Task Force fractured, the struggle for resources and internal disagreements splitting them apart, giving birth to the Clans. Constantly on the move, humanity became the Roma of the galaxy, always being told by the other races they weren’t welcome.
The Clans gathered into Factions...Factions that didn’t always see eye to eye...and now, some two hundred years after the war, we’re still hanging on. By our fingernails, maybe...but we haven’t given up.
Or as some wag scrawled on a cargo crate years ago, a message that has been copied time and again, everywhere Man can be found; ”We may be down...but we ain’t out.” We still search for a new world to call home, a piece of dirt of our own.
And now, after all this time...Maggie, of the Tinker Clan, makes a discovery, setting in motion a chain of events that could change our fate forever.
Welcome, my friends, to Book 1 in the series, A Tinker’s Damn. :)
Each book will feature a different MC, from a different Clan, the story building across the novels to its culmination…
...a new home.
I hope you’ll come join me on this journey, and see where it leads.
